Construction Permits and Zoning Permit functions include a public inquiry function to search application by address, Application ID Number, permit number, the ability to submit new applications, add supporting documentation to existing applications, and request inspections. You will need to Register and Create a Log In and Password.
Apply for Construction PermitsA permit is required when a party wishes to construct or modify buildings on a property. Detailed plans must accompany the application. Due to State of New Jersey requirements for raised seals on Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Sub-Codes, these sub-code forms may be uploaded into the system to start the application process, however, the originals containing a raised seal must be brought to the Building Department Office. Architects & Engineers may submit plans containing a Digital Seal. Building and all other UCC Sub-Codes provided as downloadable and fillable within this Portal may be applied for online. Invoices may be paid for online by credit card, debit card, e-check via the third party processing company within this portal. Fees are in Borough Code Ch. 10-1.3.
Request a Construction InspectionYou will need your Permit Number and must be logged into the system to submit an inspection request via the portal. When inspections are requested, it must be certified that the work has been completed in conformance with the UCC Code and is ready for inspection. With the exception of minor work, Inspection Requests must be done in writing per State of New Jersey requirements. If you choose not to use this portal to schedule your inspection, you may email your inspection request to BuildingDepartment@tenaflynj.govusing the form on the Borough of Tenafly website, www.tenaflynj.org. Apply for Zoning permit or Land Use reviewAll Zoning Permits require Application Review. The Borough’s Zoning Regulations are in Ch. 35, Article VIII of the Borough Code. Zoning Permits must be obtained before constructing, erecting any building or structure or part thereof, or performing any site development work. Examples are new buildings and structures, additions, interior alterations, sheds, decks, porticos, carports, fence, walls, driveways, patios, walks, pools, sports courts, site grading and temporary use of storage containers. Zoning Permits must also be obtained any time the tenancy of a commercial property or building changes. For changes to commercial or Historic District properties, prior approvals from other Tenafly agencies are typically required. Application fee is $25.00.
